September Flyer

The Reay lochs have got to a cracking September start with two fish both in the 2lb range. The first fell to Danish visitor Jans on a Bibio and was full of sticklebacks. The second just a day or so later fell to Lesley`s rod on an Irish sedge fly the Murrough size 10, it looked to have been feeding on caddis. Conditions were very similar with warm sun and showers with good hatches of sedge occuring. On September 8th Scots Lesley, English Dave and Welsh David made the 4 mile round trip walking up to hill lochs of Shallag and Caorach. In idyllic conditions a total of 16 trout were caught with 5 returned and of the remaining keepers the best was just over a pound. Scotland and England drew with 5 fish apiece and Welsh honour was restored with the heaviest trout of the day at 1lb 2oz. Flies like the Zulu, Bibio and deerhair sedge did best. Its looking good so far!
